I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, focusing all of my might onto this one particular moment in time. It was then that I prayed that damned old woman wouldn't notice me.

A white illumination flashed before my eyes. Indistinguishable words were spoken behind me, and out impulse, I kissed my bride.

Cold wind caressed my skin, numbing the pain I felt deep inside, the agony that had punished me for so long. Allowing a final breath to escape me, I embraced my fate and took a step into the darkness; I was gone before I hit the ground.

I stroked my grandmother's withered leathery old hand and nodded, giving it a hard squeeze as I watched a nurse turn off the the machine keeping the frail old woman alive. As my eyes glistened with tears I desperately held in, I watched my last remaining family member die.

It was not in the desk drawer where I had so carefully placed it the night before, it was gone. I wrote a letter explaining our predicament and as I passed it to the only one I trusted in the group, the others eyed it greedily and he knew what he had to do.

  6. I was doomed and I knew it; the knife shining in the moonlight made me feel intense fear, and my breathing quicked as it slowly moved towards me. Before I knew it the knife plunged into my heart, with droplets of blood running down my chest, I was gone forever without even saying goodbye.

She was smiling. I wonder if she felt the cold concrete on her skin as she hit the ground; she would like to feel it being totally in love with urbanization and everything around it.

  9. The weeks of hesitation had wedged themselves firmly in her mind so that all that was left to do was tell the one man she loved, the only man who had ever truly loved her, that there would be no tomorrows.
